 Not sure the exact date on this piece of school work, but it was from September 1981.

40 Years Ago Today - August 31, 1981

At some point in August of 1981, I got artistic. Drawing a house was pretty normal for me. The flip side of the paper I used was from November of 1980 or prior and discusses a trip to Las Vegas sponsored by the Hughes Culver City Employees Association. For $85, two people could visit Vegas via a "deluxe air-conditioned bus" that included a bar. And a "chicken box lunch." Your $85 also included two nights at the Highlander 6 Motel across from the MGM Grand, a "fun book," and tickets to the "Jai Alai Fronton and Games." Sounds more interested than the house I drew on the other side.

 

 

40 Years Ago Today - August 15, 1981

 Probably one of the only photos in the collection with such a precise date and time. The reverse says "Aug 15 545am." Based on my research, it was 1981. Both photos are from the same film production lot so it's a fair assumption that both photos were taken on the same trip in August 1981. The black briefcase my dad is carrying was a staple in his daily life for many years. The red bag I had for school was a staple in my life for a few years too. Based on the second photo, there must have been three Polaroid cameras in use.

40 Years Ago Today - July 20, 1981

 I wrote a letter. Well, more like dictated a letter to my mother who transcribed what I was saying. The letter is to my grandparents, Dorothy and Ted. It mentions their dog Teddy, who I vaguely remember, but as with all of there dogs I know was a poodle of some sort. There is also a mention of making ice cream, which I do remember doing with Ted, but I'm not sure if it was this trip or another one. He would use an old fashioned ice cream maker in the back yard. It took forever to make. The letter closes with my handwriting. The reverse side has a weird circle with my name in it.

 

40 Years Ago Today - June 30, 1981

Pretty sure this is an Easter lunch or dinner but it could be later in the year. Either way, the photo was developed and printed in June. The Polaroids are dated to 1981 as well and, based on my outfit and the furniture in the background, it's from the same visit.

40 Years Ago Today - June 8, 1981

I actually remember this photo. Or, more specifically, the event. I was getting ready to take my first airplane trip, by myself, across the country. I flew from Washington D. C. to Los Angeles. I was going to spend the summer with my mother. Pretty sure I left out of Dulles but it could have been Reagan. Either way, I was flying solo!
